West Texas VA Health Care System
Contributions of volunteers
"To care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan," is a meaningful quote by Abraham Lincoln that continues to impact our Veteran's health care today. Caring for our Veterans includes providing quality health care while improving their quality of life. Volunteers and Veteran Service Organizations are especially important in providing the special touch that improves our Veterans quality of life. Your continued support to Veterans and Veteran programs is essential, not only to our Veterans but also to our organization. Please accept our appreciation to you and your organizations for your tireless efforts, your many miles, and your dedication to help Veterans. Everyone has an open invitation to register as a volunteer and give back just a little to those who have given to us through the freedoms we enjoy today.
Volunteering at the West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS) is a great opportunity to help our Veterans. There are several ways that you can volunteer in the facility such as receptionist duties, information desk, courtesy cart driver, mail outs, mail courier, recreational assistance, escorting Veterans, filing assistance, van driver, clergy assistance, ground maintenance, laundry service, sorting of clothing room or just spending a little time with a Veteran that may not have family or visitors. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people within the community and help people at the same time. The WTVAHCS volunteer program provides several services to Veterans, such as providing courtesy meals, emergency travel assistance, home utilities assistance and on occasion, lodging and clothing. The program has regularly scheduled visits by a barber to provide haircuts to all of our Veterans that reside in the Domiciliary and CLC. The facility has many service organizations that continue to provide recreational activities to the Veterans, as well as providing morning refreshments to all of the Veterans within the facility. These service organizations are a valuable asset to the WTVAHCS. If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering on a one time basis or recurring basis at the WTVAHCS please contact Community Relations at (432)263-7361 extension 7135 for more information. We can never have too many volunteers. Volunteering for the WTVAHCS serves as a morale booster for our Veterans; through your donations, recreational activities, entertainment, and all of those friendly visits.
