West Texas VA Health Care System
Working at the WTVAHCS
Many years ago as a young girl, I would often come with my grandfather to his medical appointments at the Big Spring VA Medical Center. My sister and I would wait patiently for him to complete his appointments and I can remember thinking how great it would be to work here in this big beautiful building with all these great men and women. The thought of taking care of people just like my grandfather that served for our country still makes me tear up.
I have worked in Human Resources for 20 plus years and had always thought that it would be very difficult to gain employment at the Department of Veterans Affairs. I had heard that the application process was difficult so I put off applying for employment. I finally did some research and found that the application process was not difficult at all, in fact has gotten easier in the last five years with the implementation of the USAJOBS how to apply guide, https://help.usajobs.gov/index.php/Main_Page.
I love working for the West Texas VA Health Care System. I feel like I honor my Grandfather everyday by working with, hiring, and standing alongside the men and women that have served for our country while they receive their care.
Working for the Department of Veterans Affairs is a rewarding career for anyone that is caring, enthusiastic and up for the challenge.
