COVID-19 Vaccines

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized two COVID-19 vaccines. VA will have a limited amount of vaccines to start. We've worked with the CDC and other federal partners to develop a phased plan. Our goal is to do the most good for the most people during this time.

Currently, VA is offering COVID-19 vaccine to Veterans already receiving care from the VA, based on CDC and VA risk criteria. If you're eligible to get a vaccine, your VA health care team will contact you.

Veterans who are not enrolled or do not currently receive care at VA can visit VA's Eligibility web page to learn more: Eligibility For VA Health Care | Veterans Affairs

Veterans can call WTVAHCSs COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline Mon-Fri 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. to schedule an appointment.

Veterans should know that the vaccination is a 2-part vaccination.  Two appointments will be set for each Veteran to ensure availability of the second dose. Vaccinations will be provided for in order of medical priority in accordance with CDC and VHA guidelines.

WTVAHCS is conducting weekly tele-town halls every Thursday at 4:00 p.m. CST to provide updates on the status of our vaccination program and to answer questions from our Veterans.
Veterans wanting to join the tele-town halls can call:

ID Code 11962

Primary drive through vaccination clinics are being held by appointment every Saturday at the George H. O'Brien Jr. VA Medical Center, 300 Veterans Blvd., Big Spring, TX.
Alternate vaccination clinics are being conducted each Friday at one of our locations.  These alternate clinics are being conducted with small quantities of vaccine so that those Veterans most at-risk and are unable to travel may receive the vaccine as soon as possible.

Due to transportation, storage and dosage use requirements, only small quantities of vaccine may be transported to our Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

It is highly recommended that Veterans who are able to travel to Big Spring to receive the vaccine do so. Beneficiary travel is authorized for eligible Veterans and is being processed as expeditiously as possible.
